I had the opportunity to review You Had Me at Merlot. I met Marley Gibson’s husband at the NASA Social event I attended this past spring. I had no clue who he was. I just knew he was a space fan. I didn’t know he was a famous ghost hunter or that his wife was an author. Cool, huh?! Back to the review…
The story is about Hale, an editor in New York City at a wine magazine and an aspiring writer, who starts her day with the loss of her job and the death of her grandmother. She finds herself on a plane back “home” to Florida and her family and an unexpected reunion with her high school crush.
The story is filled with the unexpected secrets left by Hale’s grandmother, a mystery man attending the pre-scripted funeral, sibling jealousy, and welcoming home the black sleep of the family.
In this book, parents learn to accept and love their children regardless of their life choices. Hale learns that stepping out of her comfort zone and having a little fun is a good thing. She discovers that she doesn’t have to settle for a former, comfortable life, but can learn to start over.
This is the first book that I’ve read by Marley Gibson and I really enjoyed her writing style. Gibson’s knowledge of wine and working in print media made the story believable. The story was so good that I hated to put the book down. Head over the the link below on Amazon.com and get yourself a copy of You Had Me At Merlot.
