How To JumpStart Your Priorities –

In his newest book due to be released on August 16, 2016, John Maxwell teaches us how to JumpStart Your Priorities.  This is the fourth book in Maxwell’s “JumpStart Your…” series, which includes JumpStart Your Thinking, JumpStart Your Leadership, and JumpStart Your Growth.  

This 90-day improvement plan leads the reader through 90 days of short readings that allows them to manage their day and opportunities that may come their way.

Successful people make the right priority decisions early and manage those decisions daily.

Maxwell’s introduction acquaints the reader with the “Daily Dozen”, a list of critical life priorities for success.  The Daily Dozen is a concise list of areas that you can begin working on to help you make better decisions, better life choices, and, eventually, help you become more successful in whatever you do in you personal or professional life.  Each reading is based on one of the Daily Dozen.

JumpStart Your Priorities is a 90-day improvement plan that requires only a 15 minute commitment daily from you.  Each day is numbered, 1-90, and it includes a quote from a number of well-known people – authors, sports figures, leadership experts, political figures, and more – a short thought-provoking reading, and then a question for you to answer on the facing lined page.  It really doesn’t get any easier than that.

The reading takes no more than 5 minutes and you have 10 minutes to really put some effort into your answering the question.  The question for Day 1, for example, is:

Describe how you assess your attitude today.  Write a declaration of commitment to keep a positive attitude and use it to influence others, then sign and date it.

Putting your answer in writing not only puts it out there in black and white, but it forces you to really see how your attitude affects you and those around you.  While someone might have gotten along just fine with a poor attitude, in the end, you won’t be respected nor will you be really and truly happy inside.

Day 2 is tough.  It asks you to list your negative attitudes and habits as part of the assignment.  If you’re honest with yourself, you’ll have a list that allows you to start making improvements.  Not only will other people begin to see your changes, you’ll be really pleased with the person you become.  And that’s only two of the 90 days.
