Round Ice Ball Tray Review

We have an ice maker in our fridge.  It was one of the best inventions ever if you grew up with those old metal ice cube trays that after it froze, you pulled the lever up to release the ice.  Inevidebly, someone would leave only one cube in the tray, leaving you with the chore of filling up the ice tray and not spilling as you walked the water-filled tray to the freezer.

If you like large ice that doesn’t thaw quickly, then you will love the Round Ice Ball Tray.  Made from BPA-free silicone, it’s easy to fill, but hard to fill neatly.  You can see the water in the mold above.  That freezes too and you have to get rid of it before you can open the mold.

My first try looked like this.

Not so pretty.  So, I decided to try again and got this.

It comes in two pieces that separate to reveal your ice cubes and make it easy to dry.  You fit the two pieces together and fill through small holes in the top of the form.  It only takes a couple of hours to make the ice cubes and they do thaw slower than regular ice cubes.

When filling the ice ball tray, you have to be deliberate and careful not to overfill or get too much water around the outside of the tray.  That way you’ll have better formed ice balls for your drinks.

Make them for your ice bucket when entertaining friends for a way-cool on-the-rocks drinks.  Use less ice with these larger ice balls.

The ice ball tray comes in black and blue.  They are priced low enough so that you can have as many of them as your freezer can hold.
